We Focus on Long-Term Care
In 2014, the City of St. Louis surveyed 1328 homeless people and found decreases in the number of people without homes were due to understanding and addressing the needs of the chronic homelessness: those without shelter and with other issues like mental illness, addiction or disability.
The focus of the city’s work around homelessness centered on finding long-term supportive housing to address homelessness and underlying issues, Unfortunately, there are not many resources in that area to provide permanent housing for those who need it, especially our veterans. Veterans are even more likely to experience homelessness because this group is at higher risk of experiencing traumatic brain injuries and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, both of which have been found to be substantial risk factors for homelessness.
We Are Committed To Our Veterans
The founders of Living Better are twin sisters Sherrone and Sharon Beatty. Their experiences in their homecare business combined with observing the needs of members of their own family have inspired their desire to open a supportive housing facility for veterans.
Living Better will partner with other community organizations for referrals and to help residents access supportive services such as medical treatment, mental health treatment, education and employment.
Living Better is a residential facility for individuals needing assistance with activities of daily living in a caring and home-like environment. Living Better offers veterans an array of services that includes clinical counseling, employment services, and assistance with activities of daily living. Individuals served experience the dignity of living as independently as possible. Our goal is to offer health, educational, employment and basic living services so we offer a complete life experience for each Living Better resident. We will tailor a plan of action for each veteran to support his or her transformation to self-sufficiency as the ultimate objective. And in so doing, we seek to provide peace of mind for our residents, their families and the community.
